The trending feature in DasBlog is pretty much non-existant, and the reporting is pretty lack luster, so I've decided to switch over to FeedBurner so I can get a handle on whats going on with this blog and its readers.  So, if you wouldn't mind, please kindly update your feed reader to pull from my feed burner feed. http://feeds.feedburner.com/akcoder

Update! - I upgraded to DasBlogCE 2.0 which has an option to set your feedburner information. So you shouldn't have to do anything if to quote Scott Hanselman"Aggregrators worth their salt know to update their local records when a feed issues a 301. DasBlog will automatically get everyone over to your new feed."

I wanted to blog this mainly for my own edification, but I came across something I thought was very strange in the Windows command cacles.

So what's the difference between these two lines:

cacls "c:\temp" /T /G everyone:F

and

cacls "c:\temp\" /T /G everyone:F

If you were you were to point out that one doesn't have a trailing slash on the path, and one does; you would be correct.  You would also be correct if you pointed out that one works, and one doesn't.

Here is the output from the two commands:

C:\>cacls "c:\temp" /T /G everyone:F

Are you sure (Y/N)?

and

C:\>cacls "c:\temp\" /T /G everyone:F

The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

Seems like such a silly limitation, maybe there is something I'm not aware of?

I've decided to try getting on the "micro-blogging" band wagon and try twittering.  My twitter is @akcoder  Hopefully I'll have something interesting to say...

When I started this blog about 8 months ago, I decided I would write the kind of blog I like to read.  No non-sense, not filled with drivel about my life, and most importantly (to me any ways) technology related.

This post kind of blurs the lines a little bit, but I think in a good way.  My wife and I found out the end of March we are going to have a baby (Yay!).  I've known for a long time that when we did finally get pregnant, we wanted to be able to hear the heart beat any time we wanted.

To that end, I did a whole lot of research on fetal heart monitors.  Turns out, a lot of the consumer fetal heart monitors (especially the ones under $50) are glorified stethoscopes.  What self respecting geek would use something that cheesy?  Not I!

Once you move above the $100 mark, you start to get into Doppler.  These are the kind your ob/gyn and midwife have.  I knew this was what we wanted.  After more research, I settled on the Hi-Bebe-200 by Bistos.

What I really liked about the Hi-Bebe-200 I bought, was everything was included in the box.  Batteries, gel, the unit, instructions and carrying case.  When the device arrived, we immediately tried it out, and within about 5 minutes we had found the heart beat.  It was a very awesome experience!  Our second time using the device I found the heart beat in about 2 minutes.

One thing I wish they included was a 6 foot 1/8th inch audio patch cord so you can record it on your computer right away.  But a quick trip to Radio Shack and I have everything I need to be able to record the heart beat.

The eBay seller, Uncle Bobs Store was awesome.  Item shipped right away, shipping was only $6; and the item got here right away!

Enough non-geek talk.  Oh yeah, go listen to heart beat :)

I purchased the Pioneer CD-IB100II iPod adapter today from Image Audio for my Pioneer DEH-4800MP car stereo.  I had only used the thing for a total of 10 seconds when I decided I absolutely *hated* how it operates.  I very much disliked the fact that I had to use my stereo to control which song/podcast was being played.  It wouldn't have been so bad that I was forced to use the stereo to control which song was being played, except that when scrolling through the songs, it plays them.

  This is really bad for podcasts.  Playing a podcast marks it as not-new and makes it hard to figure out which ones need to be listened to.

  I was talking to a friend of mine while installing the unit, and he looked on the interweb and turns out that I'm not the only one with this complaint.  Well, some enterprising fellow out there figured out that if you take apart the iPod adapter and snip the blue wire that goes out to the iPod (or in my case I disconnected the from the connector and e-taped it), you get all the benefits of the iPod adapter (charging and line-level outputs) with none of the draw-backs (crappy interface).  So now I can control what song is being played on iPod and not the adapter!

  There is one drawback to disconnecting the blue wire...  The stereo now displays "ERROR-11" a minute or two after power on.  The error message is no big deal, the audio from the iPod still plays and can be heard through the car stereo, iPod still charges, and I get to use the nice iPod interface!

I was walking around Costco today and almost walked right past the office supplies, but something caught my eye...  Costco has the Rio Red Swingline 747 for $9.99 including a mini-stapler and staple remover!  What a deal!  Now if I could just get my margerita with no salt...
